Global Security Assistant

The primary purpose of this position, which is a key part of a dynamic global security, health, and safety office, is to support the International Security Advisor. The position is also responsible for preparing and assisting international study program students, and faculty going abroad.

What you'll do in this position:

  • Provide administrative support to the International Security Advisor by helping to advise university travelers on relevant location-specific security, safety and health threats and relevant mitigation strategies; and assisting travelers in managing personal incidents and in receiving help and services while abroad.
  • Provide training by creating content for presentations, briefings and seminars and giving recommendations on international travel risk mitigation to university personnel and students.
  • Assist as a response team member for international security, safety, health/medical, and sexual misconduct incidents.
  • Help review group program and individual international travel proposals, including on-going assessments of existing programs.

  • 1 year of international living or equivalent travel experience
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:

  • Knowledge of or previous work experience in world geography, languages, politics, and economies
  • Ability to work with multiple departments and various web-based AI-driven platforms.
  • Experience with incident response
  • Microsoft Office Suite basics required.
  • Ability to learn and operate comprehensive AI generated information platforms.
  • Ability to deal effectively with faculty.
  • Knowledge of BYU's international programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to synthesize and disseminate volumes of information into cogent and concise oral and written presentations.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Excellent emotional intelligence and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with customer service, interpersonal and intercultural communication, human relations, and team building.
  • Ability to keep information confidential.
  • Ability to work independently.
